ASHTANGA BASICSA beginning yoga class that touches on the fundamentals of ashtanga primary series. Rooted in ancient India, the physical practice of Ashtanga Yoga has developed over the ages into a science of the human body. Using the breath as a vehicle, the student is guided through an abbreviated version of primary series which is a series of poses specifically designed to cultivate balance, strength, and flexibility. Ashtanga is a tool for self observation and nurtures peace of mind. In this basics class, control over the breath, body, and mind will begin. Meant for the beginning student but all levels are welcome. We all rush through our lives so quickly we often miss what is right in front of us. This is the energy we often bring to the mat. In this class we take pause. We slow down the flow to the subtle muscle actions in each posture to give them time to work us from the inside out. We deal deeply with breath as well as different techniques on meditation to find stillness, and peace within our heads and our hearts. All levels are welcome. Yoga for runnersIt is all too common to hear runners complain of bad backs and knees, tight hamstrings, and sore feet. The pain most runners feel is not from the running in and of itself, but from imbalances that running causes and exacerbates. The body is the sum of its parts, and impairment of one affects them all. Yoga's internal focus centers attention on the body’s own movements as a continual practice rather than an external goal. Runners and athletes can use yoga to balance strength, increase range of motion, and integrate the body and mind. The practice of yoga moves the body through physical dimensions while teaching how to coordinate breath with each subtle movement. The eventual result is that body, mind, and breath are integrated in all actions. All levels welcome. Currently Yoga for Runners takes place at 5pm on Sundays in Haslett and 7pm on Mondays in Old Town.

VINYASA YOGA

Vinyasa (meaning "flow" in English) is a blanket term used by yogis to describe a multi-disciplinary class which focuses on alignment and breath awareness while moderately flowing from one posture to the next using breath as the vehicle. This class pulls from some of the many different paths of yoga including Iyengar, Hatha, Power, and Ashtanga yoga. Using sun salutations and breath-linked movement to transition from one pose to the next makes for a physically challenging class that allows students to flow and focus on their breath while detoxing the body, mind and spirit. This class is suitable for intermediate beginners up to advanced students. AROMATHERAPY VINYASA

A vinyasa-based class with the addition of aromatherapy. The instructor will take you on a journey of your senses that will compliment the energy in the room and the postures being taught in sequence. This class is suitable for intermediate beginners up to advanced students. Aromatherapy Vinyasa takes place at 10:30am on Thursdays in Haslett.
deep stretch & meditationThis class will focus on the subtle muscle actions in the postures chosen to be focused on that day. Subtle muscle action brings awareness and intelligence to the practice. If you know where the body is supposed to be, in all its smallest pieces of alignment, you gain the awareness to keep your body safe at any pace in any practice. We begin with a very slow gentle version of the surya namasksaras (sun salutes) and move into our focus postures. There is a deep working in with long holds to get into each piece. After the hour-long practice, the second hour of the class is for meditation. You can begin a meditation practice this way. If you choose to sit for 5, 10, 30 or a full hour, this allows you to still the mind and calm the spirit. This class is suitable for intermediate beginners up to advanced students. specialty classes -- all levels welcome

Pranyama & Chanting
When the breath (our unique, individual vital life force) is present in practice, we create a clean, clear "through-line" for energy to move through the body, and for energy that's stuck in any particular place to move, which in turn opens and frees the physical body. Without the breath, there is no practice. It is the conduit for healing. Just the same, using sound vibration, we heal the body and move energy by using the voice unique to us to chant. Develop a well-rounded, holistic yoga practice in this healing class as we dig into the other limbs of this practice beyond physical asana. We will explore a variety of the traditional pranyama and chanting practices with yogic roots from over 3,000 years ago. All levels welcome, no experience necessary. This class takes place on Fridays at 9am in Haslett.

Meditation
This class is an experiential journey into the various aspects of meditation, and all students from the curious to the adept are welcome. Yoga students are encouraged to bring their own mat for sitting, however this is not a ‘physical practice’ class. Instead, emphasis will be on meditative methods that encourage a greater internal focus or self-awareness and cultivate a more peaceful state of being. Instruction is intuitively guided, meaning each class will offer a varying set of techniques and suggestions. "The gift of learning to meditate is the greatest gift you can give yourself in this life, for it is only through meditation that you can undertake the journey to discover your true nature, and so find the stability and confidence you will need to live, and die, well. Meditation is the road to enlightenment." - Sogyal Rinpoche (Tibetan Book of Living & Dying). Click to view the Meditation class options in Old Town or Haslett.
